Andrew Kuykendall
Award-winning photographer Andrew Kuykendall was born in South Los Angeles and began shooting Polaroids in the nineties, combining the allure of his early trips to Paris, the creative energy of punk, and the alert, improvisational eye of a skateboarder always searching for possibility in the urban landscape. The irreverent intimacy of those early images evolved into a career in fashion photography during his studies at the Art Center College of Design. Kuykendall’s work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and published in books and anthologies. Alongside a twenty-year career photographing for clients such as Hugo Boss, Nordstrom, John Varvatos, and Urban Outfitters—and for publications including Vogue, Elle, and W Magazine—he continues to expand his creative practice into painting and text.
Disposable Days
Known for his nostalgic, whimsical, and sensual narratives, Disposable Days brings together more than two decades of Andrew Kuykendall’s work across film, digital, Polaroid, and paint. Influenced by the sensual excess of fashion, the quiet dissolution of Southern California’s dreamscape, and a life spent on the road, this retrospective weaves together Kuykendall’s commercial and personal practices, including photographs as well as paintings on print and paper.
On set, Kuykendall cultivates an atmosphere of trust, collaboration, and improvisation—an intuitive exchange shaped by the place, the moment, and the people involved. His practice continues to evolve alongside the shifting landscape of the industry that shaped him, yet remains grounded in the sensibility that defines his work: one that embraces spontaneity and play as essential creative forces.
All prints in this exhibition are available in additional sizes.
